Mothers Day...

I wanted to share the card that my 16yr old son made for me for Mothers Day.  He never plans anything and usually just sits down at my table when I am not looking and grabs whatever he can see and uses that to make a card.  This card is no exception to that rule!

He obviously couldn't be bothered with double sided tape to adhere the punched shapes and paper strip and chose a stapler instead!  He also doesn't care whether paper matches or not, but in this case he did pretty well.

The card base was an almost full sheet of 12x12 double sided 

patterned paper and the message inside is just priceless...

"Thanks for having me!"

(He was born on Mother's Day after all)

bIRTHDAY bOY...

...My youngest boy turned 16 on Saturday and I thought I would share the card I whipped up for him.

He is our dare-devil child and always wants to be on-the-go.  I found the perfect paper and embellishments in my stash and it all came together quite nicely.

 I inked a chip alpha, doodled around the edges and attached a skateboard dangle charm.

He says he is a 'legend' so I cut the word from the patterned paper and attached it to the card, folded  the corner of the paper and held it in place with a brad. 

This is the card opened.  I put a lift-up flap on the middle section to reveal a message, 

with a turn mount to hold it closed, and a small envelope on the right section to hold a gift certificate, once again using a turn mount to hold it closed.

As there were more than 2 little surprises for him, I also made a pocket for the back section of the card to hold yet another little 'gift message'.

I think he was very happy with the card, as well as the gifts, as he put it in a very prominent place in his bedroom for all his mates to see!!!

...and it just keeps going!

I love shabby chic but very rarely use it as I never seem to have any pics that suit...BUT at last I found one!!!

This pic was taken some 40 years ago and I have always loved it and NOW I love it even more.  When I am working with old photos I secure them to my LO's using clear photo corners so I can remove them easily to see the writing on the back.

Some 'violent' distressing around the edges, a few rows of machine stitching

and a cluster of hand made flowers all came together

nicely to create this special LO.

I liked the look of the LO without any journalling but at the same time

I wanted to do some journalling so I created a pull-out tag for some journalling.

Who said you can't have the best of both worlds?

More fun!!!

So much stuff and so little time!  BUT I did manage to squeeze in another LO using my leftovers from the Scrapville monthly pack.  I can't believe how much I am getting done using only the goodies in the pack (although I did sneak a piece of cardstock out of my own stash for this one!) 

I still haven't scrapped very many of the 9,000 or so pics that we took on our 6 week road trip 2 years ago, so I took the opportunity to use some pics of my husband at Universal Studios in California where he met his hero from years back...the good old Homer Simpson.  Homer loved the fact that Boyd has just about as much hair as Homer does and he really rubbed it in.

I threaded ribbon from through the green hand 

cut scallop border to add a bit of colour.

Back again..

After my little patchwork LO using the Scrapville monthly pack I wanted to try something a little more fun and what can be more fun that a bubble bath!!!

Colourful circles, felt brads, rhinestone bling, pom pom trim and some funky fabric strips all blended together for this little piece of fun!

 I tore some strips from the fabric included in the pack and tied 

them onto the LO for a little extra interest and dimension.

Alpha stickers, also included in the pack, were added to one of the 

accent stickers and covered with a nice thick layer of Dimensional Magic.

And even after all this there is still HEAPS of stuff leftover!!!

...and I'm on a roll!!!

I am having a ball with all this mojo.  Just hope it lasts for a little while.

The current monthly pack from Scrapville is jam packed with all sorts of scrapping goodies and I just didn't know where to start.  BUT one of the stickers in the pack caught my eye and below the words on the sticker was a small patchwork heart...that little heart is what I used as inspiration for this LO.

And here is the offending sticker.  I added cross stitches to 

tie it in a little better with the other stitching on the LO.

I used some dress pattern paper to create

a ruffle around the edge of the patchwork heart and  

I must say I was quite happy with how it worked out.

Finally some scrapping time...

...at last I have found some time and mojo!!!

This is a LO I did for the Scrapville March/April sketch challenge.  The first LO I have done for quite a few months and when you have a sketch to follow it is a pretty easy way to get going again.  Check out the other entries on the Scrapville blog.

I used a Jenni Bowlin scallop journal tag, covered some Jenni Bowlin chip buttons with co-ordinating paper and tied them with some bakers twine to finish them off.  Add a row of bling, some scrunching, inking and distressing and voila...there you have it.

A simple life...

More of Mexico...

There are no washing machines here!!!  Just a communal 'pond', some wash boards and a lot of elbow grease.  I love the little boy sitting in the wheel barrow while the women and girls do all the work.  We saw scenes just like this one a lot, especially as we drove through the more remote areas.  They also have no clothes and the wet clothes lay spread out on the ground or draped over shrubs and fences to dry.

The local corner store...I love the colour co-ordination and the displays.  No fancy fridges or scales here.  These little lean-to's were everywhere along the roads.

A different world...

I thought I would share a few more Mexico pics.  I am in love (obsessed???) with south eastern Mexico and would happily spend a month out of every year there.  It truly is a different world though and this is just a tiny glimpse of what we saw.

 Simple dwellings are everywhere...no running water, no electricity, no windows...just holes in the walls.

 Anything goes on the roads...riding animals is ok, 20 people in and on the back of utes is okay, overtaking with oncoming traffic is okay as the oncoming traffic just move over to let you through, stopping in the middle of the road for any reason is okay as long as you put your hazard lights on...

Why did the chicken cross the road?

To get to the other side!!!

FINALLY...

...I have managed to fix the old laptop so I can transfer the photos from my trip last November. My son Alex and I had an awesome time and could have stayed for way longer. 

Palenque, Chiapas.

This was an AMAZING ruin site.  We spent quite a few hours climbing these ancient buildings and were totally in awe of the great Mayan civilisation that created these massive structures and carvings.

We also managed to find some time to walk through part of the Palenque National Park and see some of the hidden treasures, like this waterfall, that is out-of-the way and not on the usual tourist route.  


This totally beautiful part of the world that I will be definitely be visiting again!!!

My new babies...

...have arrived!!!  imagine my excitement when I arrived home from work to find these little cuties finally here.

She is a good Little Mama Hen and waited until all the cheeping eggs had hatched before moving.  They are way too cute and I have named the black ones Penguin 1 and Penguin 2 as they look just like little penguins.  Of course they don't stay this cute for much longer than a few days but I will enjoy them while I can.
